You should really check out Torque by Garage Games. Not quite free but its pretty cheap. Yoiu can try it free for 30 Days then its only $100 bucks for indie developers or $500 for businesses.
They also make a great 3D engine.

the forums are great support and there are lots of developers out there willing to help. Some of the best casual game developers use it.
